Standing Ovation

In your neighborhood, someone is stuck in the same situation as you, needing a hand with a simple chore that is too big for just one person. You both have a simple task to finish, but you 'need a hand' in order to get it done. DaveZillion solves that problem by providing members with a network to team-up with others and simply get things done. Whether you are in the suburbs and your neighborhood stretches a few miles or you are in the city and your neighborhood is just one block or building, the DaveZillion network is available to you right at your fingertips.

Tree Down on Driveway

After a crazy night of wind and rain, I woke up to a tree across my driveway. I was able to use my small electric chain saw for some cleanup but needed help and a bigger saw for the rest. I called my tree guy and without coming out to look at it, he said emergency clean-up is usually between $600 and $1,000. So I sent out an emergency alert to my DaveZillion network and one of my buddies who lives a couple towns away had an 18" saw and time to help me out. Turns out, he needed help getting an old stove out of his basement so I'm going to give him a hand over the weekend

We are hearing a lot about fallen trees recently, way to use teamwork and your DZ network instead of your wallet to get things done!

Light Fixture Installation

Thanks to the JT, Shane, and Jamie for helping with the installation of the light fixture in my dining room and for help with some demolition. Any time you guys need help, count me in. DaveZillion rules.

Way to save money and be productive!

POOL!!!

I posted a request for help installing a pool. Folks from DaveZillion contacted me immediately and offered to help me out. With a few emails and a few phone calls we were off and running. On a beautiful Saturday morning in May about 10 guys showed up with shovels and equipment and in about 6 hours our pool was up and running. It was awesome to have so many people come together to help us. We are in a tight financial situation and I wanted to replace our pool that had collapsed the previous winter. I had the pool on lay-away but didn't have the financial where-with-all to have it installed. DaveZillion came thorough and my 3 children got to have their backyard summer vacation. A special thank you to all the people that helped us out. We will pay it forward. Thank you!

Great Story! Glad to hear your kids had a fun summer in the pool...

Patio

My wife and me finally got rid of the ugly old concrete patio in our yard. We're going to use the space for a small garden and put a deck in the other side. Thanks to Tom for helping us out.

Old concrete patios - I feel your pain. Good job tackling this project yourself and finding help from someone in the DaveZillion community. Best of luck with the deck and garden!!

Fire Pit Storage

My wife is difficult to surprise. I put a post on the site and a local guy allowed me to assemble the present in his garage and store it there for a week before her birthday. She was pleased with the gift but very surprised that I was able to surprise her. One problem - it took me too long to get back and get the carton out of the guys garage - sorry about that Mr. C.

Good thinking, points with the wife is worth the extra effort...

Easy Lifting

I posted a request for some help in carrying an 18 foot steel beam weighing 600 pounds into a basement and then lifting it into place under the supervision of a steel worker. Chris and Keith, a couple of locals who had checked out the DaveZillion site, came by, put their muscles to work and made the job easy. Saved at least a couple of hundred bucks by not having to hire a second steel worker.

Wow, that's a story we may not here often - a 600 pound beam!! The DZ team is happy you were able to save some money - and Chris and Keith, you guys must be HUGE!

Chimney Balloon

After feeling the heat escape my familyroom through the warped 7' damper in an oversized fireplace, I purchased a chimney balloon to eliminate the escape route. I could not install it alone (age, flexibility and having only 2 hands) so I posted an SOS on DaveZillion. My DZ network to the rescue and after he arrived, the balloon was installed in 20 minutes. Not only is the familyroom warmer, the beer money allowance has been preserved. With out the DZ!platform, I would have never asked friends/family to help me out with this!! Bob

Good thinking Bob, that's how to build a network and use your contacts. Glad to hear the money you saved on installation will be going to fund something important. Just don't have one too many and decide that it is a nice night to have a fire...

Baby Furniture

My wife is 6 months pregnant with our second child, and the crib/dresser we'd ordered had just come in and was waiting for me at the warehouse. I connected with someone in town who's wife just had a baby 6 weeks premature (healthy, by the way). As it turns out, his furniture was at a warehouse a few towns away. We split the cost of a U-haul truck and spent an afternoon moving the furniture into each other's nursery. We each saved over $100 on delivery costs.

Great to hear the baby is in good health! Congratulations and best of luck to both of you.

Congratulations guys, that's the American spirit!

Jerry, a help-desk technician got laid off from his job at a major insurance company. Unfortunately at that time, the roof on his house had a slow leak. Rather then spend money to fix it properly, Jerry put a tarp on his roof, hoping it would hold until his financial situation improved. He also posted a question on DaveZillion asking for advice and ideas for a cheap fix. Dan is in the construction business and times are obviously slow for him right now. Dan's computer was acting up and saw from Jerry's posting that he was a computer specialist. The two teamed-up; Jerry showed Dan how to rid his computer of spyware and everything else slowing it down, and Dan helped Jerry fix his roof all within one afternoon.

Congratulations guys, that's the American spirit!

Good work fellas!

Rob had three massive trees professionally taken down. It would have cost him another $400 to have the wood taken away. Instead, he found Kyle a town over who just bought a house and needed firewood for the coming season. Together they teamed up and shared the $100 cost of the wood splitter that Rob rented for the day. They split wood for 8 hours and now have enough firewood for at least two years of burning.

There are confirmed reports that the two were complaining the next day on how sore they were from that physical activity and there are unconfirmed reports on how many beers they had along the way. Good work fellas!

Safe sailing guys!

After a few years of saving, Scott was finally in a position to buy his first boat. The problem is he didn't have a clue on how to maintain one. Meanwhile Brian, a long-time boat owner, was using DaveZillion to find an extra set of hands to help him winterize his own vessel. Scott responded to Brian's posting and before long, the two successfully winterized Brian's boat, all the while Brian tutoring Scott on the tricks-of-the-trade of maintaining his own boat.

Thanks for playing teacher Brian, and congratulations on your new boat Scott! Safe sailing guys!

We all hate wasted space Beth

After two years in her new house Beth became fed up with a small area of wasted space just off her kitchen on the way to her garage. She posted a question on DaveZillion asking for suggestions on what to do with this space. Kathy, living in the same town and with a similar home, saw Beth's post and immediately contacted her with suggestions. Thanks to Kathy, in less than one day, Beth's problem was solved.

We all hate wasted space Beth, welcome to DaveZillion!
